Kingdom Come Deliverance 2's Historical Consultant Rates the Game's Storyline as \"1 Out of 10\" for Realism
Joanna Novak, the historical consultant for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, has provided fascinating insights into her work on both installments of the series, shedding light on the challenges and compromises inherent in blending history with gameplay.
In discussing the narrative of the game, which revolves around the protagonist Hendrich, Novak pointed out that the storyline is significantly detached from the probable realities faced by a blacksmith's son in that period.

She emphasized that the plot of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 leans more towards the realm of legend and folklore rather than adhering strictly to historical facts. Novak rates the game's narrative realism at a mere "1 out of 10," explaining that the developers made these choices to cater to player preferences. Audiences are often more captivated by epic rags-to-riches tales where the hero ascends through societal ranks, engages with notable historical figures, and accomplishes extraordinary feats—elements that starkly contrast with the everyday life of a medieval peasant.
Regarding the game's world-building and environment, Novak commended Warhorse Studios for their efforts toward authenticity in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. However, she acknowledged that the studio faced significant hurdles due to time and budget constraints, as well as the necessity to meet modern gameplay expectations. These factors led to certain compromises that favored player enjoyment over absolute historical accuracy.
Despite these adjustments, Novak expressed satisfaction with the inclusion of numerous details authentic to the period. Nonetheless, she cautions against labeling the game as entirely realistic or historically accurate, as this would be misleading.
