inZOI's Karma System: Creating Ghost Towns
inZOI introduces a fascinating karma system that can transform bustling cities into eerie ghost towns if too many Zois die with negative karma. Dive deeper to understand the intricacies of inZOI’s karma mechanics and get ready for its highly anticipated early access launch.
inZOI Cities Can Be Overrun By Ghosts
New Zois Cannot Be Born If There Are Too Many Ghosts
inZOI's innovative gameplay can lead to cities turning into ghost towns when an excess of ghosts linger. This unique feature was highlighted in the latest issue of PC Gamer Magazine, where inZOI Director Hyungjun Kim elaborated on the game’s karma system and its impact on player experience.
Kim explained, "Each action a Zoi takes contributes to their karma points." He further stated, "Upon death, a karma evaluation occurs, and if the score is too low, the Zoi turns into a ghost, requiring redemption of karma points to reincarnate."
If the situation escalates with numerous Zois dying with poor karma, the entire status of the city can shift dramatically. Kim noted, "An overabundance of ghosts prevents new Zois from being born and families from forming, putting the onus on players to manage the city’s karma balance." This adds an extra layer of strategy for players, urging them to navigate the karma system to prevent their cities from becoming desolate.
Kim emphasized, "The system isn’t designed to promote only 'good' actions and restrict 'bad' ones." He added, "Life is nuanced, and every existence has its own meaning and value. We encourage players to explore inZOI’s karma system to generate varied events and narratives, delving into the multifaceted nature of life."
inZOI Director Has Great Respect for the Legacy The Sims Built
inZOI positions itself as a notable contender in the life simulation genre, yet inZOI Director Hyungjun Kim does not see it as a direct rival to The Sims. He stated, "We view inZOI as an additional choice for fans of the genre, not as a competitor to The Sims."
Expressing his admiration for the Sims franchise, Kim said, "We have immense respect for the legacy The Sims has established over the years. Achieving that level of depth in a short time is challenging, given the broad and intricate concept of 'life' that life sim games encompass."
inZOI aims to offer a distinct experience by emphasizing its unique features. Kim highlighted, "inZOI is crafted to let players freely mold their desired lives with creative tools. We utilize Unreal Engine 5 for a realistic visual style, offer extensive customization options, and integrate AI-driven tools. We hope players leverage these features to bring their imaginations to life, step into their own stories, and inhabit these worlds."
