The First Capcom Games Competition
Strengthening The Video Game Industry
Capcom has recently unveiled plans for the inaugural Capcom Games Competition, a pioneering event in the realm of game development. Tailored specifically for students in Japan, this competition leverages Capcom's renowned RE ENGINE, with the objective of revitalizing the video game sector by fostering research and development at educational institutions. Through this industrial-academic partnership, Capcom aims to bolster the industry's growth, enhance research efforts, and cultivate the next generation of exceptional game developers.
Participants in the competition will form teams of up to 20 members, with each individual taking on roles reflective of real game development positions. Over the course of six months, these teams will collaborate to create a game, supported by Capcom's professional developers, allowing them to immerse themselves in state-of-the-art game development processes. Winners of the tournament will be granted game production support and the chance to see their creations commercialized.
The application window for the competition opens on December 9, 2024, and will close on January 17, 2025, subject to any updates. Eligibility is restricted to individuals who are at least 18 years old and currently enrolled in a university, graduate school, or vocational school in Japan.
RE ENGINE, also referred to as Reach for the Moon Engine, is Capcom's proprietary game development engine, initially crafted in 2014 for the release of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in 2017. This versatile engine has since powered numerous Capcom titles, including subsequent Resident Evil games, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and the eagerly anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds slated for release next year. Continuously refined and upgraded, RE ENGINE is at the forefront of developing high-quality games.
