Stellar Blade Dev Shift Up Posts Record Year, Sales of PC Version Still Expected to Outsell PS5
Shift Up, the developer behind the hit game Stellar Blade, has reported a record-breaking financial year, largely driven by the success of Stellar Blade. The game generated an impressive $43 million in royalties, contributing significantly to the company's total revenue of $151.4 million in 2024, marking a 30.4% increase from the previous year.
The momentum for Stellar Blade shows no signs of slowing down. Shift Up is optimistic about the upcoming PC version, expecting it to outperform the original PlayStation 5 release, particularly in the Asian market. This anticipated success underscores the growing demand for the game across different platforms.
Looking ahead, Shift Up is set to unveil its new project, Project Witches, in the first half of 2025. Although this new title isn't a sequel to Stellar Blade, the developer has expressed interest in potentially expanding the Stellar Blade franchise in the future.
Stellar Blade, which features players controlling the protagonist Eve in a fast-paced action role-playing game set against the backdrop of reclaiming Earth from unknown invaders, has been well-received. It quickly sold a million copies and earned a 7/10 rating from IGN. While the game excels in its action elements, IGN noted that "Stellar Blade is great in all of the most important ways for an action game, but dull characters, a lackluster story, and several frustrating elements of its RPG mechanics prevent it from soaring along with the best of the genre."
