A Devil May Cry Remake Would Be a Modern Reimagining
Remaking classic games has become a popular endeavor for legendary developers, with titles like Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 leading the charge. The original Devil May Cry (DMC) could join that prestigious list, as its director, Hideki Kamiya, has shown a strong interest in helming its remake.
In a May 8 YouTube video, Kamiya responded to fan questions about potential sequels and remakes. When asked about his ideas for a DMC remake, he affirmed, "A remake like that... well, I would certainly like to take that on."
A Game Born in 2001 from a Breakup

Devil May Cry first launched in 2001, initially conceived as a version of Resident Evil 4. The project evolved so dramatically from its core concept that Capcom ultimately decided to release it as a brand new franchise.
Nearly a quarter-century later, Kamiya shared the personal inspiration behind the game. He revealed that in 2000, he experienced a devastating breakup that left him deeply depressed. The intensity of that emotion burned within him and ultimately fueled the creation of DMC.

Kamiya admits he never revisits his own games after launch, and DMC is no different. However, he occasionally sees gameplay clips and is reminded that it is, unmistakably, a product of 24-year-old design. If he were to remake it, he would start from scratch, leveraging today's technology and contemporary game design principles.
For now, it's not something he dwells on, as he typically only develops concrete ideas once a project is officially greenlit. Should the opportunity arise, he hopes Capcom will entrust him with the task, confidently stating, "But if the time comes—I’ll come up with something. That's what I do." Beyond DMC, Kamiya has also expressed interest in remaking Viewtiful Joe. These revelations have fueled hope among his fans that these beloved classics may soon receive a modern revival.
