Nintendo Switch 2 Adds Joy-Con Mouse Navigation
Nintendo confirms players can navigate the Switch 2 Home screen using Joy-Con mouse controls.
Speculation about the new Joy-Con's mouse functionality began shortly after the Switch 2 announcement. Last month, Nintendo officially revealed the "mouse mode" feature, allowing users to slide controllers on surfaces while using analog sticks for left/right clicking - similar to a traditional mouse. The system supports dual Joy-Con operation, enabling simultaneous mouse mode use with both controllers or mixing standard and mouse modes.
New details have emerged through Nintendo Today's app demo, later shared on X/Twitter, confirming Home menu navigation compatibility.

According to Nintendo, placing the Joy-Con 2 attachment-side down on any flat surface activates an on-screen cursor. The company notes: "For cursor activation, position the controller horizontally on a stable surface and move it as demonstrated."
The documentation adds: "Mouse controls enable menu navigation through thumbstick tilting, functioning across both Home screens and supported applications." Users can seamlessly return to traditional thumbstick controls by repositioning the Joy-Con vertically.
While full software compatibility remains unconfirmed, Nintendo has showcased mouse functionality working with upcoming Switch 2 titles including Mario Party Jamboree, Metroid Prime 4, and the athletic title Drag x Drive.
The Nintendo Switch 2 launches June 5, with pre-orders (still priced at $449.99) becoming available on April 24 to overwhelming demand. For purchasing details, consult IGN's comprehensive Switch 2 pre-order guide.
