Hollow Knight: Silksong Set to Vastly Outscale Original
After years of anticipation, we finally have a substantial new trailer for Hollow Knight: Silksong, revealing a September 4 release date. The community is already delving into the details, with many noting that the core Silksong experience appears larger than the original Hollow Knight's base game—a remarkable achievement for a project that originated as downloadable content.
This speculation is supported by the trailer, which highlights that the game features over 200 distinct enemy types and more than 40 boss encounters. For comparison, Hollow Knight's launch trailer cited over 140 enemies and 30 bosses.
Based on these figures, Silksong seems poised to launch with a greater variety of adversaries than its predecessor. While the exact scale of the explorable world remains unconfirmed, the necessary space to accommodate this expanded roster suggests the map will be at least as vast as the original, if not more so. This is particularly noteworthy given Silksong's origins as a DLC expansion that evolved into a full-fledged, and potentially larger, sequel.
It's important to note that this comparison does not include Hollow Knight's substantial post-launch DLC, which introduced numerous new enemies, areas, bosses, and narrative content. With those additions, the complete Hollow Knight package is undoubtedly more extensive than Silksong will be at launch. However, developer Team Cherry has confirmed ongoing post-launch support for Silksong, leaving open the possibility that it may eventually surpass Hollow Knight's total content in the years to come.
For those eager for a closer look, we recently had the opportunity to preview Hollow Knight: Silksong at Gamescom in Cologne. Interestingly, the demo build appears to be the same version shown at E3 2019, now refined after six additional years of polish—a clear testament to the game's extensive and meticulous development journey.
