Bloodborne Fan Projects in Copyright Crossfire
Sony's copyright claims against Bloodborne fan projects are escalating. Following a DMCA takedown of Lance McDonald's Bloodborne 60fps mod after four years, Lilith Walther's Bloodborne PSX demake has now been targeted. A YouTube video showcasing the demake received a copyright claim from MarkScan Enforcement, a company confirmed by McDonald to be working for Sony. This aggressive action has fueled speculation, with McDonald suggesting Sony might be clearing the way for an official 60fps remake or remaster by removing fan-made content from search results.
The situation highlights the ongoing frustration surrounding Bloodborne's lack of official next-gen support. While PS4 emulators have achieved near-remaster quality at 60fps, Sony's response remains ambiguous. Despite fan demand for a remaster, sequel, or even a simple 60fps patch, Sony has remained silent. Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida offered a theory, suggesting Hidetaka Miyazaki's personal attachment to the game and reluctance to let others work on it may be the reason for inaction. While Miyazaki has acknowledged the game would benefit from a modern release, Sony's actions suggest a potential shift in strategy, although no official announcement has been made. The future of Bloodborne remains uncertain, leaving fans in a state of anticipation and speculation.
