Larian Studios has surprised fans by announcing a major update for Baldur's Gate 3 in 2025, defying expectations that Patch 7 would be the final significant update. This substantial update includes highly anticipated features like cross-play support and a photo mode, but the real head-turner is the addition of twelve brand-new subclasses, each promising unique and exciting gameplay mechanics.

While details on four subclasses have already been revealed, let's delve into the remaining eight:

Oath of the Crown Paladin: This paladin subclass champions justice and societal well-being. Their unique ability, Divine Devotion, allows them to absorb incoming damage meant for allies, simultaneously restoring their health. A true protector.

Arcane Archer: Blending martial skill with arcane magic, the Arcane Archer launches enchanted arrows with devastating effects. These arrows can blind, weaken, or even banish foes to the Feywild until their next turn. Incredibly, missed shots can be redirected mid-flight to hit another enemy, ensuring accuracy.

Drunken Master Monk: This unorthodox monk incorporates alcohol into their fighting style. A signature move intoxicates opponents, leaving them disoriented and vulnerable while simultaneously enhancing the monk's own abilities. Using Instant Sobriety on an intoxicated target unleashes a potent attack dealing both physical and mental damage.

Swarmkeeper Ranger: This ranger commands the power of nature through alliances with various swarms of creatures. These swarms act as both shields, protecting the ranger from harm, and assist with teleportation. In combat, the Swarmkeeper can deploy three distinct swarms: electric jellyfish that shock, blinding moth clouds that impair vision, and stinging bee legions that knock enemies back a significant 4.5 meters if they fail a Strength check.
