As its ominous description suggests, the **Survival of the Fittest** challenge strips away many of the tools players rely on. You must identify the ghost without traditional evidence and under constant threat due to zero starting sanity. This challenge must be completed at **42 Edgefield Road**, a tight, maze-like house that heightens the fear factor significantly.

Tips & Tricks To Complete Survival of the Fittest in Phasmophobia

Upon entering 42 Edgefield Road, remember: you’re not working with standard gear. Your equipment loadout excludes Ghost Writing Books, DOTs Projectors, and Video Cameras—meaning no easy access to physical evidence. Instead, you’ll need to observe the ghost's behavior closely to determine its type.

Use what little you have wisely:

• The Parabolic Microphone can help detect unique vocal cues from certain ghosts, such as a Banshee’s scream or a Myling’s frequent noises.
• Placing salt on the floor may reveal whether you're dealing with a Wraith.
• Lighting three Firelights in succession could expose an Onryo.

You begin the challenge with just five seconds of setup time and start at **zero sanity**, making you extremely vulnerable to ghost hunts. Even the two Sanity Medications provided won’t help—sanity cannot be restored during this challenge. Be ready to navigate the house while constantly evading deadly encounters.

Although gathering evidence is more difficult, the ghost will remain highly active throughout the investigation. Events occur frequently, offering opportunities to study behaviors and narrow down possibilities. Also, keep in mind that while the ghost may roam, its favorite room remains unchanged.

Most doors are partially open at the start, complicating your ability to track the ghost by movement alone. However, the **functional fuse box starts in the ON position**, which is a rare advantage. There are also nine hiding spots available—use them strategically during hunts.

Your only Cursed Possession for this challenge is the Monkey Paw. Using it to “wish for knowledge” can eliminate incorrect ghost types and evidences from your journal. However, the cost is steep: you'll be blinded and deafened, and a cursed hunt will trigger nearby. This method works best with a team, allowing one player to act as bait while others survive and gather intel.

How to Access Challenge Mode in Phasmophobia

To enter Challenge Mode, go to the **Difficulty Settings** from the main menu. Choose either Singleplayer or Multiplayer to create a new lobby, then select the Difficulty tab above your character ID. Scroll through the options until you find **Challenge Mode**, and click Apply.
