Rocksteady Hit Hard by 'Suicide Squad' Misfire
Rocksteady Studios, the creator of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, announced further layoffs in late 2024, impacting programmers, artists, and testers. This follows September's layoffs which halved the testing team's size.
These job cuts reflect the game's poor reception and significant financial losses for Warner Bros., estimated at $200 million. The studio announced in December that no further updates are planned for 2025, though servers will remain active.
The situation worsened with the early access release, revealing numerous bugs, server outages, and even a story spoiler. Negative reviews from major gaming publications and widespread player complaints led to a massive 791% surge in refund requests, according to McLuck analytics. This wave of refunds further compounded the financial strain.
The layoffs extended beyond Rocksteady, impacting Games Montreal (known for Batman: Arkham Origins and Gotham Knights) with 99 job losses. Rocksteady's future projects remain unannounced.
