Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase Revealed New Details for the Update
Closed Beta Begins March 13, 2025
Ubisoft has announced on their official website that Rainbow Six Siege X (R6 Siege X) will host its Closed Beta test from March 13th at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET, immediately following the R6 Siege X Showcase, until March 19th at the same times.
Fans eager to participate in the R6 Siege X Closed Beta can secure access by tuning into the R6 Siege X Showcase on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel or through selected Content Creators' Twitch livestreams to earn Closed Beta Twitch drops. The beta will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
However, some players have reported not receiving the expected email containing the access code for the R6 Siege X Closed Beta. Ubisoft Support has acknowledged the issue on Twitter (X) on March 14 and is actively working to resolve it.
It's worth clarifying that R6 Siege X is not a new game but a significant update, promising to elevate Siege with advanced graphical and technical enhancements.
New 6v6 Game Mode: Dual Front
Ubisoft has introduced Dual Front, a dynamic new 6v6 game mode. According to the official website, this mode will bring "foundational upgrades to the core game (including visual enhancements, an audio overhaul, rappel upgrades, and more) alongside revamped player protection systems, and free access that will allow players to experience the unique tactical action of Rainbow Six Siege at no cost."
Dual Front will unfold on a new map named District, where two teams of six Operators will clash to attack enemy sectors while defending their own. This marks the first instance in R6 where both attacking and defending Operators are active simultaneously, promising new strategic possibilities with gadget combinations and tactics.
While introducing Dual Front, the game will continue to offer its classic Siege mode, now rebranded as "Core Siege." This mode will feature five updated maps: Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe, each with double texture resolution, optional 4K textures on PC, and improved destructible materials. Initially, only five maps will receive these updates, with plans to modernize three additional maps each subsequent season.
Free Access Starting Season 2 of Year 10
After a decade, Siege will transition to a free-to-play model, following the trend set by its competitors. Originally released in 2015 amidst a landscape dominated by paid multiplayer games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Battlefield Hardline, Siege is now embracing the live-service model prevalent today.
At the R6 Siege X Showcase event in Atlanta on March 13, Game Director Alexander Karpazis told PC Gamer that the team aims to attract new players. "We want people to invite their friends to try out Siege, and we want to give them the majority of the game so that they understand what makes this game so special," Karpazis said. He believes that offering the majority of the game for free will lower the entry barrier, especially since "Siege is at its best when you've got friends playing with you."
Free access will include Unranked, Quick Play, and the new Dual Front modes. However, Ranked mode and the Siege Cup will remain behind a paywall for premium access. Leroy Athanassoff, former game director, explained in a 2020 interview with PC Gamer that the initial pay-to-play model was designed to deter smurfs and cheaters. Karpazis added, "Having that barrier to Ranked or Siege Cup means you have to be committed to the game. It does mean we weed out smurfs, and it means we're prepared to continue supporting the most competitive aspect of the game."
Siege 2 Was Never On The Table
Despite reaching its 10-year milestone, Karpazis revealed that the team never considered creating Siege 2. Unlike competitors such as Overwatch 2 and Counter-Strike 2, R6 Siege chose to enhance the existing game rather than develop a sequel.
"We just had to do what was right for Siege and what was right for players as well," Karpazis explained. He noted that the focus three years ago was on continuing the game's development, which led to the creation of Siege X. This project, developed over three years alongside regular seasonal updates, aims to set the stage for another decade of gameplay. "Siege X, for us, is a moment where we want to make big, meaningful changes to the game. We want to show that, yes, we're here for another 10 years, and we want to respect the people who brought us here so far," Karpazis said.
He emphasized the importance of the community, stating, "You don't get to 10 years as a live service game without the community that built you up."
Rainbow Six Siege X is scheduled for release on June 10, 2025, across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay updated with the latest on the game by checking out our Rainbow Six Siege article below!
