Obsidian's CEO Expresses Confidence in The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed

Positive Progress Amidst Past Hurdles

In a recent interview with Limit Break Network, Urquhart shared positive news regarding *The Outer Worlds 2*, stating that development is proceeding smoothly. He praised the dedicated team, many of whom worked on the original title, highlighting their expertise and commitment.

Urquhart candidly acknowledged the difficulties faced during the COVID-19 pandemic and the period following Microsoft's acquisition of Obsidian. Simultaneous development of multiple titles, including Grounded and Pentiment, significantly strained resources. He admitted a period of slowed development, even mentioning internal discussions about potentially halting The Outer Worlds 2 to focus solely on Avowed. However, the studio ultimately persevered, continuing development across all projects.

Obsidian's Multi-Title Development Challenges"We were acquired [in 2018], then COVID hit, and we were juggling Outer Worlds, its DLC, Avowed, Outer Worlds 2, Grounded, and Josh's work on Pentiment," Urquhart recalled.

Despite the setbacks, Urquhart expressed pride in the successful outcomes of Grounded and Pentiment, and his confidence in the promising progress of both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, describing the latter as "looking incredible." While specific game details remain undisclosed, the delay of Avowed to 2025 suggests potential timeline adjustments for other projects.

Positive Outlook for Obsidian's Upcoming TitlesThe lack of substantial updates since The Outer Worlds 2's 2021 announcement was also addressed. Urquhart acknowledged the possibility of delays, similar to Avowed, but reaffirmed Obsidian's commitment to delivering high-quality games. "We'll deliver on all these games," he stated. "Will they meet the initial timelines? No. But we'll get there, and that's been proven." Both titles are slated for release on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
