Hytale Revives as Founders Reclaim Game from Riot Games

Do you remember Hytale? The project was launched by Hypixel Studios back in 2015, which feels like a lifetime ago now! Riot Games later acquired the studio in 2020, taking over the game's development. Unfortunately, they made the decision to cancel it in June 2025.

A Surprising Comeback

The game has now returned to its original creators. Hypixel co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme has secured the rights to Hytale back from Riot Games. He calls this a thrilling new chapter for the project and its community.

The team is now fully independent, with personal funding secured for the next decade of development. They are also reverting to the original 'Legacy' engine showcased in the first trailer to accelerate progress and deliver a playable version sooner.

While a specific date for early access hasn't been set, the studio promises an announcement very soon. The initial launch will be for PC, with versions for other platforms, including mobile, following much later.

Hytale is best described as a sandbox RPG adventure. Players can explore a vast, procedurally generated world filled with dungeons, secrets, and creatures, then reshape it entirely, block by block.

At launch, the focus will be on Exploration Mode, Creative Mode, and robust modding support. Planned features like a full Adventure Mode and Minigames will be developed post-launch, with a separate team dedicated to the latter.

The developers state that modding is crucial to Hytale's long-term success. The early access version will launch with extensive modding tools for both custom content and server-side modifications.

Community Support is Key to Finishing Hytale

This means playing the early build, reporting bugs, providing constructive feedback, creating mods, and sharing knowledge. Here's hoping the early access release arrives soon so we can all jump in and help!
