Zomboid's Guide: Boarding Up for Survival
In the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid, securing your shelter is paramount. While finding a safe haven is relatively straightforward, keeping the undead hordes at bay requires more effort. This guide focuses on a fundamental defensive measure: barricading windows.
How to Secure Your Windows in Project Zomboid
To effectively barricade a window, you'll need specific materials: a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once gathered, simply right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window can support up to four planks for enhanced protection.
Hammers and nails are commonly found in locations like toolboxes, garages, sheds, and closets. Wooden planks are frequently located on construction sites, or can be salvaged by breaking down wooden furniture (shelves, chairs, etc.). Administrators can use the "/additem" command to spawn these items.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie access. The more planks used, the more time it takes for them to breach the defense. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." Note: you'll need a claw hammer or crowbar to do this.
It's important to know that larger furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) cannot be used as effective barricades; both players and zombies will pass right through them. However, knowing how to move furniture remains a useful skill for interior design purposes.
While wooden planks offer a basic defense, more robust barricades can be constructed using metal bars or sheets. However, this requires sufficient Metalworking skill.
