Witcher 4: Ciri's Unique Combat Revealed
In The Witcher 4, a significant shift is underway. Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon, or Ciri, steps into the spotlight, replacing Geralt as the protagonist. This change has ignited considerable speculation about how it will reshape the gameplay, especially the combat system. CD Projekt RED recently offered some intriguing insights during a podcast episode.
The developers highlighted a trailer scene depicting Ciri battling a monster. She uses a chain—a stylish callback to The Witcher 1—to grapple and subdue her foe. However, it's her fighting style that truly stands out: fluid, acrobatic, and unlike anything Geralt could manage.
The developers themselves described the key difference: "There was this one scene where we see the chain, which is a tribute to The Witcher 1. When she grabs the monster’s head with it and pins it to the ground, she also performs an additional flip, which was really cool because you can’t imagine Geralt doing something like that. He’s very… I’d say he’s agile, but he’s also very… he feels almost like a ‘block’ in a way—he’s bulky and heavy. And she [Ciri] is just… she’s practically like liquid compared to [Geralt]."
This contrast is striking. Geralt's combat relies on strength and precise strikes. Ciri's, however, is faster, more dynamic, and showcases her inherent agility. Her acrobatic maneuvers promise a thrilling, fresh combat experience, a departure from Geralt's grounded approach.
With Ciri leading The Witcher 4, players can anticipate a more fluid and fast-paced combat system perfectly tailored to her unique skills and personality. As CD Projekt RED continues to unveil details, anticipation mounts. Will Ciri's gameplay successfully uphold Geralt's legacy? Only time will tell.
