Role-playing games (RPGs) remain a cornerstone of the gaming industry, boasting a rich history spanning over three decades. Each month brings a fresh wave of notable RPGs, ranging from highly anticipated AAA titles like Starfield, Lies of P, Hogwarts Legacy, Octopath Traveler II, and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, to more specialized releases such as Labyrinth of Galleria: The Moon Society, 8-Bit Adventures 2, and Little Witch Nobeta. The RPG landscape is constantly evolving, with a steady stream of new titles on the horizon.
The ambitious nature of many AAA RPG projects often leads to announcements years ahead of release, generating considerable excitement and, sometimes, equally high expectations. This pre-release hype can be both a blessing and a curse, occasionally leading to disappointment. However, when a game successfully meets its potential, the results are truly rewarding. So, which upcoming RPGs are generating the most buzz?
Updated December 24, 2024 by Mark Sammut: This article has been updated to include two new highly anticipated RPGs. One is slated for a March 2025 release, while the other lacks a confirmed release year.
