Joseph Kosinski, known for directing films like Top Gun: Maverick and Tron: Legacy, is reportedly set to helm a new Miami Vice movie for Universal, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This exciting project will see Nightcrawler writer-director Dan Gilroy penning the script, building on an initial draft by Top Gun: Maverick screenwriter Eric Warren Singer. Gilroy has recently been involved in writing multiple episodes of the acclaimed Star Wars series Andor, which was created by his brother, Tony Gilroy.
The iconic Miami Vice series, originally created by Anthony Yerkovich and produced by Michael Mann, aired on NBC for five seasons from 1984 to 1989. Starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as detectives Crockett and Tubbs, the show revolutionized television with its unique style, sound, and visuals, cementing its place as a cultural landmark.
The series was previously adapted into a feature film in 2006, directed by Michael Mann and starring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell.
