RDR2 rumored for Nintendo Switch 2 by 2025
A Nintendo Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 may launch by late 2025, alongside reports of a next-generation upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
Industry outlet GameReactor cites sources "familiar with Rockstar's plans" indicating a Switch 2 port is in development, complemented by a next-gen enhancement patch for current PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series systems.
While specifics remain limited, GameReactor's insiders suggest both the port and upgrade could arrive before year's end.
These claims align with Nintenduo reports placing the Switch 2 release within Take-Two's current fiscal year ending March 2026. Distribution plans remain uncertain - whether as digital-only or including physical copies.
Original IGN reviews hailed Red Dead Redemption 2 as a "masterpiece," awarding perfect scores. Our Red Dead Redemption 2 review praised it as "a meticulously crafted open-world tribute to the outlaw era."
A Switch 2 adaptation seems plausible following Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick's recent investor comments expressing "strong optimism" for Nintendo's forthcoming platform. Notably, he confirmed Take-Two will launch four titles with Switch 2 - more simultaneous releases than with previous Nintendo hardware.
While not confirming specific titles, Zelnick acknowledged Nintendo's improved third-party support strategy: "We evaluate each platform opportunity individually," he stated, "but we're certainly more bullish about Switch 2 prospects than past Nintendo consoles."

Take-Two's confirmed Switch 2 lineup currently includes Civilization 7 (June 5 launch), unspecified NBA 2K and WWE 2K entries, and Borderlands 4 (September 12). While these represent existing Switch franchises, Zelnick's remarks suggest potential for additional legacy titles - possibly including Red Dead Redemption 2 or even GTA V, though GTA 6 appears unlikely.
