Persona 5: Global Launch for Phantom X Explored

SEGA's latest financial report hints at a global release for Persona 5: The Phantom X (P5X). The report states that the gacha spin-off, currently enjoying a successful launch in select Asian regions, is under consideration for global expansion.

P5X: Global Ambitions?

Initial reports indicate that P5X's performance in its open beta (currently available in China, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, and Taiwan) has met expectations. This positive reception is fueling discussions about a wider release encompassing Japan and international markets.

Open Beta Details

Published by Perfect World Games (South Korea) and developed by Black Wings Game Studio (China), P5X launched on April 12th, 2024 (China) and April 18th, 2024 (other regions). Players assume the role of "Wonder," a high school student who moonlights as a Persona-wielding Phantom Thief. The game features the series' signature turn-based combat and social simulation elements, enhanced by a gacha system for character acquisition.

The protagonist, Wonder, initially wields the Persona Janosik, and teams up with Joker (from the main Persona 5 series) and a new character, YUI. Gameplay showcases a new roguelike mode, "Heart Rail," reminiscent of Honkai: Star Rail's Simulated Universe, offering varied power-ups and map exploration. SEGA's Positive Financial Outlook

SEGA's report also highlights strong sales of other titles, including Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Persona 3 Reload, and Football Manager 2024. The company anticipates growth in its "Full Game" segment, projecting a 5.4% increase in revenue for FY2025, and plans to further expand its online gaming presence in North America. A new Sonic title is also slated for release next year. The company is restructuring, establishing a new "Gaming Business" segment to encompass its diverse portfolio.
