DC Studios head James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. Alongside this announcement, Gunn shared a brief snippet of new footage, heightening anticipation for the upcoming season. In the clip, John Cena, reprising his role as Peacemaker, is seen in action, smirking at the camera amidst a backdrop of flames, and is referred to as "a superhero now."

In a tweet, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Counting the days until Peace on Earth. I just finished the DI & Mix on the Season Premiere yesterday and wow it’s one of my favorite things ever. DC Studios’ #Peacemaker Season 2 coming soon only on @StreamOnMax August 21."

Peacemaker Season 2 is set to follow the release of Superman on July 11, marking it as the third entry in Gunn's rebooted DC Universe (DCU), after Creature Commandos and Superman. This new cinematic universe, crafted by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, diverges from the previously criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite the shift, some elements from the DCEU will continue into the DCU, with Peacemaker serving as a notable example. While Season 1 was part of the DCEU, Season 2 will be integrated into the new DCU.

Gunn has mentioned that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics about what will carry over from the DCEU to the DCU are still under wraps. What is confirmed is the return of the entire Team Peacemaker, with John Cena leading the cast, alongside Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Additionally, Gunn has indicated that Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
