Overwatch 2 Extends 6v6 Playtest
Overwatch 2's 6v6 Playtest Extended, Transitioning to Open Queue
Overwatch 2's popular 6v6 playtest, initially slated to end January 6th, has been extended due to overwhelming player enthusiasm. Game Director Aaron Keller announced the extension, confirming the mode's availability until mid-season. Following this, it will shift to an open queue format, allowing 1-3 heroes per class per team. The possibility of 6v6 becoming a permanent fixture remains a strong contender.
The 6v6 mode's initial run, part of last November's Overwatch Classic event, showcased its immense appeal. A subsequent playtest, starting December 17th, also proved highly successful. This sustained popularity prompted the extension. While the exact end date remains unannounced, the mode will soon move to the Arcade section.
The Strong Argument for Permanent 6v6
The continued success of 6v6 isn't unexpected. Since Overwatch 2's 2022 launch, the return of 6v6 has been a top community request. The shift to 5v5 gameplay, while a significant change, hasn't resonated universally.
The extended playtest fuels hopes for 6v6's permanent integration, potentially even into competitive playlists. This outcome hinges on the conclusion of ongoing testing.
