Omori Cancels Switch and PS4 Physical Release in Europe
Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Switch and PS4 in Europe. The reason cited is technical difficulties related to multilingual European localization. Further details regarding these difficulties remain undisclosed.
A String of Postponements Leads to Cancellation
The physical release, initially slated for March 2023, faced multiple delays, shifting to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally January 2025 before ultimately being cancelled. Pre-orders through retailers like Amazon were impacted by these repeated postponements.
This news has understandably frustrated many fans, particularly given that a physical European release would have provided official Spanish and other localized language versions for the first time. European players still have the option to obtain physical copies of the Switch and PS4 versions, but only through importing from regions like the US.
Omori, an RPG centered around Sunny, a young boy grappling with the aftermath of a traumatic experience, blends reality and dream worlds. Initially launched on PC in December 2020, it expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox release was subsequently removed due to an unrelated issue involving merchandise from the game's developer, OMOCAT.
