"Oblivion Remastered Mods Released Online"
Bethesda has officially stated that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered does not include official mod support. However, this hasn't deterred the passionate fanbase from creating their own unofficial mods. Mere hours after Bethesda and Virtuos shadow-dropped the reimagined version of Oblivion for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, a variety of community-created mods surfaced on the popular platform, Nexus Mods. These initial mods primarily focus on minor customizations, showcasing the unwavering dedication of The Elder Scrolls modding community.
At the time of writing, an impressive 22 mods are already available on Nexus Mods. The first mod to be released allows PC users to customize their desktop by replacing the default Oblivion Remastered shortcut with an image of the game's iconic Adoring Fan. Other mods enable players to bypass the introductory Bethesda and Virtuos logo screens. Additionally, mods such as one that adjusts the Wizard's Fury spell and another that removes the in-game compass are already offering gameplay customization options.
This early surge of mods comes despite Bethesda's announcement that Oblivion Remastered lacks official mod support, a detail disclosed in the FAQ section on their website. The modding community, typically encouraged by Bethesda for their games, has not been slowed down by this decision.
One Nexus Mods user, GodschildGaming, uploaded an Iron Longsword damage mod to demonstrate that modding is still feasible. In the mod's description, they stated, "This is just to prove modding is possible. Bethesda says no mod support, I say false. It really is Unreal slapped on top of Oblivion, the data folder is nested in a lot more folders but same concept."
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered was released today, marking 19 years since the original game's launch, and is available on PC and consoles. As more players dive into the game in the coming weeks and months, the number of mods is expected to grow, providing even more unique ways to personalize the gaming experience. While awaiting further mod releases, interested players can explore discussions on why some consider the game more of a remake than a remaster and Bethesda's reasoning behind labeling it as "Remastered."
