Nintendo Reveals Pricey Upgrades for Switch 2 Games

Nintendo has recently announced the upgrade costs for transitioning two popular titles from the original Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. These upgrades come with a heftier price tag than expected.

For those familiar with the upgrade process, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom set a precedent with a $9.99 fee to move from the Switch 1 to the Switch 2 Edition. However, as noted by NintendoLife, the upgrades for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are more than double that amount.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild boasts improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service on the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version of Breath of the Wild can access these enhancements with an "upgrade pack" priced at $10.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content in the "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree’s Switch 2 Edition includes a new feature, "Jamboree TV," which leverages the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, the Switch 2 microphone, and the optional Switch 2 USB-C camera. Both titles also offer upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functionalities.

Although U.S. prices are yet to be confirmed on the American Nintendo eShop—potentially due to fluctuations in President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the upgrade pack for Kirby and the Forgotten Land at £16.99 / €19.99, significantly higher than the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The same price applies to the upgrade for Super Mario Party Jamboree, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99 for both upgrades.

The elevated $20 upgrade cost for these games might be linked to the $80 price tag for both Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. For comparison, their original Switch versions are priced at $59.99 each.
