NIKKE Evangelion Crossover: Player Disappointment Revealed

Shift Up's Goddess of Victory: NIKKE collaboration with Neon Genesis Evangelion fell short of expectations, according to a recent interview with the game's producer. The August 2024 event, featuring Rei, Asuka, Mari, and Misato, encountered several setbacks.

The initial character designs, created collaboratively by Shift Up and Nikke, were deemed too suggestive by Evangelion's creators, leading to revisions. While the adjusted designs satisfied the licensors, they failed to resonate with players. The resulting costumes, particularly Asuka's premium gacha skin, lacked sufficient visual distinction from the base models, offering little incentive for purchases.

Player feedback highlighted a lack of compelling reasons to invest in limited-time characters or costumes. The event's overall execution was criticized as uninspired and stretched out, diluting the core identity of Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, known for its distinctive character designs and engaging narrative. The underwhelming collaboration contrasted sharply with the game's established strengths.

Shift Up acknowledged the shortcomings and pledged to incorporate player feedback into future collaborations. The hope is that future events will deliver more engaging and visually striking content. In the meantime, both Goddess of Victory: NIKKE and Neon Genesis Evangelion are available on the Google Play Store.
