Netflix Lands New Sesame Street After HBO Max
Good news for fans: Sesame Street isn't going anywhere. The classic children's program, a television staple since 1969, has found a new streaming home. Following the conclusion of HBO and Max's longstanding deal at the end of 2024, the show will now be available on Netflix and PBS.
Netflix will offer new episodes globally alongside the show's extensive library. PBS stations and the PBS Kids platform will also air new episodes on their premiere day. As part of the agreement, Netflix will have the opportunity to create video games based on the show and its spinoff series, *Sesame Street Mecha Builders*, aligning with the streamer's push into gaming for subscribers.
Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind the show, announced the partnership on social media on May 19. "This unique public-private partnership with Netflix, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting ensures *Sesame Street* can keep helping kids everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder," the statement read.
We are excited to announce that all new Sesame Street episodes are coming to @netflix worldwide along with library episodes, and new episodes will also release the same day on @PBS Stations and @PBSKIDS platforms in the US, preserving a 50+ year relationship.

The upcoming 56th season will introduce a new format. Each episode will be anchored by an 11-minute narrative, drawing inspiration from character-focused hits like *Bluey*. Classic segments like the beloved *Elmo's World* and *Cookie Monster's Foodie Truck* will also return.
Since its debut in November 1969 and its move to PBS in the 1970s, *Sesame Street* has been a cultural institution. HBO and Max began their partnership with the show in 2015 with a significant $35 million deal for new episodes.
That collaboration ended in late 2024 as the streamer shifted focus away from children's programming, citing low subscriber engagement. However, the existing library of episodes will remain on HBO and Max through 2027—a slight extension of the original agreement, but without the production of new content.
