Neil Druckmann: No Promises on The Last of Us Part 3
If you're a fan of *The Last of Us* eagerly awaiting news about a potential *Part 3* video game, you might want to brace yourself for some disappointing news. Series creator Neil Druckmann has recently thrown cold water on any hopes of a *Part 3* ever coming to fruition. In a detailed interview with Variety, centered primarily on the upcoming *The Last of Us* TV series, Druckmann addressed the possibility of a *Part 3* and delivered a rather discouraging response.
“I was waiting for this question,” Druckmann remarked with a sigh. “I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it.” This statement suggests a closure to the beloved franchise, at least in terms of video game sequels.
While it's hard to take Druckmann's words at face value, it's clear that Naughty Dog's current focus is on their new project, *Intergalactic*, announced at The Game Awards last December. With no release window in sight, *Intergalactic* is likely to keep the studio occupied for several years, leaving little room for *The Last of Us Part 3* in the near future. Druckmann could be playing his cards close to the chest, or he might genuinely be finished with the series. Only time will tell if his stance changes.
For those still yearning for more *The Last of Us*, the television series offers a glimmer of hope. The second season is set to premiere on April 13 on Max. While Druckmann expressed uncertainty about the number of seasons needed to complete the story of *Part 2*, an HBO executive hinted in February that four seasons might be the ideal number to wrap everything up.
