Author : Lucas Oct 23,2025

The casting lineup for Star Wars: Starfighter continues to develop, with Mia Goth joining Ryan Gosling in the upcoming sci-fi epic.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Goth – renowned for her roles as Maxine Minx and Pearl in the X horror franchise – will portray an antagonist in Shawn Levy's Star Wars project. The Deadpool & Wolverine director will commence filming this fall in England, with a theatrical release scheduled for May 28, 2027.

THR's report indicates Gosling stars as a protagonist tasked with safeguarding his young nephew from hostile forces, including Goth's character. Lucasfilm has declined to provide official comment on the casting news.

A Standalone Star Wars Adventure

The film's narrative unfolds five years after The Rise of Skywalker, marking previously unexplored territory in the Star Wars timeline. Director Shawn Levy has emphasized the project's independent nature, stating at Star Wars Celebration 2025: "This isn't a prequel or sequel – it's an entirely new adventure set during an uncharted period."

Starfighter follows 2026's The Mandalorian and Grogu in Lucasfilm's release schedule. While sharing its name with early 2000s video game titles (Star Wars: Starfighter [2001] and Jedi Starfighter [2002]), the film isn't expected to adapt their narratives.

Expanding the Post-Sequel Timeline

While The Rise of Skywalker concluded with Emperor Palpatine's defeat, it left the galactic landscape largely undefined. Daisy Ridley's confirmed return in Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's sequel will explore Rey's Jedi Order reconstruction approximately 15 years post-Exegol, placing Starfighter's events earlier in the timeline.
