"Marvel Snap Blocked in US Over TikTok Restrictions"
Second Dinner, a studio based in California, developed the popular game Marvel Snap, but it's published by Nuverse, a subsidiary of ByteDance. Due to this association, Marvel Snap faced a ban alongside other apps such as CapCut and Lemon8. As of January 18, 2025, the game has been removed from iOS and Android platforms, much to the dismay of its players.
While many players are encountering authorization problems, those with PCs can still access Marvel Snap on Steam. The developers at Second Dinner expressed their shock at the sudden ban and are actively working to bring the game back online. In an official statement from Platform X, they reassured the community:
"Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress."
One of the most frustrating elements of this situation was the lack of prior warning to players. Many continued to spend money on in-game purchases, unaware of the impending lockout.
In addition to Marvel Snap, other ByteDance apps were also affected by the lockout, though not all of them. For example, games like Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain accessible to players.
In our recent coverage, we discussed the introduction of the ongoing card Moonstone to Marvel Snap. This card is part of the game's Ongoing archetype and is a much-needed addition to the meta. Moonstone, with her 4/6 stats, can replicate the ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in her lane. The current pool of low-cost Ongoing cards in Marvel Snap is significant, with cards like Ant-Man and U.S. Agent typically using their effects to boost power. However, Moonstone stands out because she can acquire these effects at no additional cost, potentially leading to high-value plays.
