While Thailand may be worlds away from Hogwarts, The White Lotus Season 3 star Jason Isaacs has shared his unconventional choice for who should inherit his iconic role as Lucius Malfoy in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter series.

"Meryl Streep," the veteran actor declared in a new Variety interview focused on his work in The White Lotus. "She's capable of anything - truly limitless in her abilities." Streep does have experience portraying male characters, having played several roles in HBO's Angels in America miniseries, including an elderly male rabbi.

Isaacs, who originated the role in 2002's Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, insists he won't be offering advice to whoever assumes the mantle. "Why would they need tips from an old has-been like me?" he quipped. "I already know some of the brilliant actors being considered - the series is in excellent hands."

The British actor portrayed the cunning Death Eater across five Potter films, with his final appearance in 2011's Deathly Hallows - Part 2. Regarding the new adaptation, only one casting has been officially confirmed at this time.

The New Generation of Hogwarts Faculty

Acclaimed actor John Lithgow will take over as Albus Dumbledore, succeeding Richard Harris and Michael Gambon. Other key professor roles appear close to finalization:

  • Paapa Essiedu (Black Mirror) in negotiations for Severus Snape
  • Janet McTeer (Jessica Jones) potentially as Minerva McGonagall

While these rumored castings remain unconfirmed, fans eagerly await official announcements about the highly anticipated series.
