F-Zero Climax Races onto Nintendo Switch
Get ready to experience the thrill of high-speed futuristic racing! Nintendo has announced the addition of two classic F-Zero GBA titles to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack: F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend.
Launching October 11, 2024
These exhilarating racing games, including the previously Japan-exclusive F-Zero Climax, will be available to Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers starting October 11th.
The F-Zero series, a cornerstone of Nintendo's legacy, debuted in Japan over 30 years ago and quickly gained recognition for its innovative gameplay and cutting-edge graphics. Its influence is undeniable, inspiring other racing franchises like SEGA's Daytona USA. Known for its breakneck speed and intense competition, F-Zero pushed the boundaries of what was possible on retro consoles like the SNES.
Like Mario Kart, F-Zero features intense races filled with track obstacles and rival racers piloting their unique "F-Zero machines." The series' iconic protagonist, Captain Falcon, even makes appearances in Super Smash Bros.
F-Zero: GP Legend initially launched in Japan in 2003, followed by a global release in 2004. F-Zero Climax, released in Japan in 2004, has remained region-locked until now – a nearly two-decade wait! This long absence, according to F-Zero designer Takaya Imamura, is partly attributed to the immense popularity of Nintendo's Mario Kart franchise.
This October 2024 update to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack brings both F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend to a new generation of players. Experience the classic Grand Prix, engaging story modes, and thrilling time trials.
