Elder Scrolls Online Finally Adds Subclasses

After years of player requests, The Elder Scrolls Online is introducing a highly anticipated subclass feature. Discover how this system works and what’s next for the game.
Latest Updates from ESO Direct
Unlocking Over 3,000 Skill Line Combinations

As The Elder Scrolls Online marks its 10th anniversary, Zenimax Online Studios revealed exciting plans during ESO Direct 2025 on April 10. The standout announcement? Subclassing will finally arrive after years of player demand.
Previously, adding new skill trees required starting fresh characters—a frustrating limitation in an MMO. The new subclass system lets players blend skill lines without rerolling. Upon reaching level 50, characters keep one base class skill line while swapping two others from any available class, creating 3,000 potential builds.

Game Director Rich Lambert confirmed rigorous testing for this feature, noting the team accepts certain power level increases as intentional design choices.
Worm Cult Seasonal Narrative

Zenimax is transitioning to seasonal updates, enabling more experimental content delivery. Studio Director Matt Firor explained this approach allows for richer storytelling while introducing innovative gameplay systems at a sustainable pace.

The first seasonal chapter, "Seasons of the Worm Cult," continues the decade-old Molag Bal narrative. Players explore the Isle of Solstice investigating the cult’s resurgence. While this season spans most of 2025, future seasons will run 3-6 months, including "remix" revivals of past stories like the hinted Dark Brotherhood season.
2025 Content Bundles
ESO unveiled two new content options via Twitter on April 11. The 2025 Content Pass and Premium Edition bundle all previous and upcoming releases, including:
● Fallen Banners dungeon pack (Available now)
● Seasons of the Worm Cult Part 1 (June releases)
● The Writhing Wall event (Late 2025)
● Feast of Shadows dungeon pack (Mid-2025)
● Seasons of the Worm Cult Part 2 (Winter 2025)
Both editions include exclusive collectibles like the Skulltooth Coastal Durzog mount and Golden Eagle pet. Early purchasers before May 7 receive bonus items including the 10-Year Lion Guard Steed and anniversary-themed cosmetics. The Premium Edition additionally grants access to every past Chapter and class, from Morrowind to Gold Road.

These updates celebrate ESO’s decade-long legacy while expanding its world for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC adventurers. The subclass system and seasonal approach promise fresh ways to experience Tamriel’s evolving stories.
