Excitement is building in the gaming community as Bethesda is reportedly poised to unveil a remake of the iconic *The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion* in the coming weeks, with a release anticipated shortly thereafter. The news was brought to light by NatetheHate, a leaker known for his accurate prediction of the Nintendo Switch 2's announcement date. His claim that the Oblivion remake will be revealed this month or next has been supported by VGC. While the exact release window remains somewhat uncertain, NatetheHate suggests a launch before June, whereas VGC hints at a possible release as early as April.

Rumors of an Oblivion remake first surfaced in January, thanks to a report from Mp1st, which detailed an accidental leak from a former employee at Virtuos, a video game support studio. Microsoft, when approached by IGN for comment, remained silent. According to Mp1st, the remake is being crafted with Unreal Engine 5, promising a significant overhaul rather than a simple remaster. Alleged gameplay changes include modifications to Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reaction, and the HUD. The blocking mechanics have reportedly been inspired by action games and Soulslikes, addressing the original's "boring" and "frustrating" system. Enhancements to Sneak, Stamina depletion effects, and a revamped HUD aim to enhance player experience, with hit reactions added for clearer feedback and modernized Archery mechanics in both first and third-person perspectives.

The prospect of an Oblivion remake has been on the radar since 2023 when documents from the FTC vs. Microsoft trial over the Activision Blizzard acquisition revealed a list of unannounced Bethesda games planned for future release. Originally slated for a 2022 financial year release as an "Oblivion Remaster," it's unclear if the project evolved into a full remake. The list also included titles like an Indiana Jones game, *Doom Year Zero* (now *Doom: The Dark Ages*), *The Elder Scrolls 6*, and more, many of which have faced delays or cancellations.

With Microsoft now focusing on multiplatform releases and the impending launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, the Oblivion remake could potentially expand its reach beyond PC, Xbox, and PlayStation to include the new Nintendo console. If the Switch 2 hits the market around June, the Oblivion remake might just make it into the console's launch window, offering fans a chance to explore Cyrodiil on yet another platform.
