EA Sports FC 25: Major Gameplay Overhaul Revealed
Electronic Arts' soccer simulators have long been under scrutiny, not only for their monetization strategies but also for their technical performance. The criticism surrounding EA Sports FC 25 escalated to a point where action was deemed necessary. In response, the developers rolled out a comprehensive "Gameplay Refresh Update," featuring over 50 modifications to the game mechanics. These changes include:
- Significant updates to core gameplay systems such as assists, shots, goalkeeper play, and defensive tactics.
- Resolution of common issues where defenders would unrealistically catch up to the ball carrier.
- Enhanced fluidity in attacking play, making ball movement more seamless.
- Decreased occurrence of reverse tackles and AI interceptions.
- Substantial reduction in the effectiveness of crossing passes.
- Quicker player support when positioned in roles they are accustomed to.
- Better offside detection for AI-controlled players during offensive runs.
- Minor improvements in the accuracy of regular and aimed shots from outside the penalty area in straightforward conditions.
Despite these efforts, only 36% of the 474 player reviews at the launch of EA FC 25 were positive, indicating a predominantly negative reception. The community has been vocal about their dissatisfaction with what they perceive as Electronic Arts' greed, alongside the game's numerous bugs and crashes. Additionally, issues with PlayStation controller recognition have drawn significant criticism.
Another point of contention is the game's incompatibility with the Steam Deck due to its anti-cheat system, further frustrating players looking for versatile gaming options.
