How Doctor Doom 2099 Works in Marvel Snap
Doctor Doom 2099 is a 4-cost, 2-power card with a unique ability: After each turn, if you played exactly one card, a DoomBot 2099 is added to a random location. These DoomBot 2099s (also 4-cost, 2-power) provide an ongoing +1 power buff to other DoomBots and Doctor Doom. This includes regular Doctor Doom, creating synergistic power boosts.
The strategy revolves around playing one card per turn to maximize DoomBot 2099 deployment. Early placement of Doctor Doom 2099 significantly increases power potential, potentially reaching 17 power or more with optimal play and extending the game with cards like Magik.
However, there are drawbacks. The random placement of DoomBots can hinder your strategy, and Enchantress completely negates their power boost.
Best Doctor Doom 2099 Decks in Marvel Snap
Doctor Doom 2099's one-card-per-turn requirement makes it a strong addition to Spectrum-style Ongoing decks. Here's an example:
Ant-Man, Goose, Psylocke, Captain America, Cosmo, Electro, Doctor Doom 2099, Wong, Klaw, Doctor Doom, Spectrum, Onslaught
This budget-friendly deck (only Doom 2099 is a Series 5 card) offers flexibility. Early Doctor Doom 2099 placement, aided by Psylocke or Electro, allows for powerful combos with Wong, Klaw, and Doctor Doom. Alternatively, if early Doctor Doom 2099 placement fails, the deck can pivot to a strategy centered around regular Doctor Doom and Spectrum's buffs. Cosmo protects against Enchantress.
Another viable strategy uses a Patriot-style deck:
Ant-Man, Zabu, Dazzler, Mister Sinister, Patriot, Brood, Doctor Doom 2099, Super Skrull, Iron Lad, Blue Marvel, Doctor Doom, Spectrum
This equally affordable deck (again, only Doom 2099 is Series 5) utilizes Patriot's power-boosting ability. Early game focuses on cards like Mister Sinister and Brood, transitioning to Doctor Doom 2099, Blue Marvel, and Doctor Doom. Zabu provides cost reduction for early-game plays if Patriot's effect isn't triggered. Note that this deck is vulnerable to Enchantress, but Super Skrull helps counter other Doctor Doom 2099 decks. Strategic skipping of DoomBot 2099 spawns allows for playing two 3-cost cards on the final turn.
Is Doctor Doom 2099 Worth Spotlight Cache Keys or Collector’s Tokens?
While Daken and Miek (released alongside Doctor Doom 2099) are relatively weak, Doctor Doom 2099's power and deck-building versatility make him a worthwhile acquisition. Using Collector's Tokens is ideal, but he's a strong contender regardless. His potential to become a meta-defining card is high, unless future nerfs change his trajectory.
