Defeating the Blade Phantom in The First Berserker: Khazan - Strategy Guide
Boss fights in *The First Berserker: Khazan* are challenging, especially when you're not fully prepared for what's coming. The Blade Phantom, a formidable foe you'll encounter on the Trials of the Frozen Mountain level on Stormpass, is no exception. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to defeat this ghostly adversary and emerge victorious.
Phase 1
The Blade Phantom is a spectral entity that tests your stamina management and combat prowess with its relentless attacks. This battle takes place in a castle with floors flooded with a crimson liquid, setting an eerie tone for the fight. The Phantom employs a variety of melee attacks:
- A six-hit combo consisting of four punches and two kicks, with the second kick being a delayed attack.
- A three-hit combo with two punches followed by a downward kick.
- A four-hit combo that starts with a right hook, followed by two kicks and ends with a leaping kick smash.
- A three-hit combo with flashing punches, culminating in a grab that must be dodged.
Beyond these melee strikes, the Blade Phantom can summon a giant hammer, causing damage and red spikes to emerge. If it uses a spear, prepare for a quick throw followed by a teleporting smash. When wielding a blade, it executes a swift six-hit combo. Additionally, it can vanish and dash around the battlefield before launching an attack.
To overcome this phase, master the timing of its attacks to parry or dodge effectively. Use these openings to attack and deplete its stamina, setting up opportunities for a Brutal Attack. Continue this strategy until the boss's health is reduced by about half, triggering the transition to the second phase.
Phase 2
The second phase begins with the Blade Phantom unleashing four claw attacks, followed by a high-altitude spear throw. Evade the spear's impact zone and brace for a leaping swipe. Subsequent attacks include three greatsword slashes and a hammer smash.
In this phase, the Phantom continues using many of its previous moves, but with added variations such as a spear thrust and follow-up, and multiple sets of rapid dual-wielding attacks. It also teleports more frequently. Be especially vigilant when it wields the greatsword, as it will execute multiple slashes leading to a Burst Attack signaled by a red P-like symbol on the screen. To counter this, use the Counterattack (L1/LB + Circle/B) to parry, which not only restores your stamina but also leaves the boss vulnerable to your attacks.
Strategically, aim to deplete the Blade Phantom's stamina and time your Brutal Attack when the opportunity is about to close. This maximizes the damage inflicted and paves the way for your victory. Defeating the Blade Phantom rewards you with 8,640 Lacrima, Soul Eater gear items, a Shieldsman’s Ring, and Netherworld Mineral for crafting.
