Death Stranding 2 New Characters and Gameplay Revealed at Summer Game Fest

While Death Stranding 2: On the Beach won't launch until later this month, Hideo Kojima treated fans to an exclusive preview during Summer Game Fest, unveiling a compelling new character scene.

Emotional New Character Dynamics Revealed

The gameplay clip introduces two pivotal new characters - Lucy (portrayed by Alissa Jung) and Neil (played by Luca Marinelli). As a fellow porter like protagonist Sam Bridges, Neil shares an intense moment with Lucy after noticing their matching hand brands. Their charged interaction hints at forgotten history, with Neil showing recognition while Lucy reacts with visible distress.

Kojima confirmed Neil's role will mirror Mads Mikkelsen's emotional depth and narrative significance from the original game.

Returning to the Strand World

This sequel continues the story of Fragile and Sam Bridges years after the events of the original game. Following Kojima Productions' September showcase of bizarre gameplay elements - including a surreal photo mode, dancing puppet soldiers, and George Miller's mysterious character - today's reveal adds more pieces to the puzzle.

Previous footage showed Norman Reedus' Sam encountering Miller's Tarman character alongside a disturbing talking puppet, with supporting roles played by Elle Fanning (Tomorrow) and Shioli Kutsuna (Rainy). The game's June 26, 2025 launch remains a PS5 exclusive.
