New Creative Team Embarks on God of War TV Project

The highly anticipated God of War live-action TV series is undergoing a significant creative overhaul. Several key producers, including showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, have departed the project. Despite this shake-up, the series is not canceled. Sony and Amazon have opted for a creative reimagining, seeking a new showrunner and production team.

While multiple scripts were reportedly completed, the decision was made to pursue a different creative vision. Key figures remaining attached include Cory Barlog (Santa Monica Studio Creative Director) as an executive producer, alongside PlayStation Productions' Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, Vertigo's Roy Lee, and Santa Monica Studio's Yumi Yang. The search is now on for new leadership to steer the adaptation.

This reboot follows the 2022 announcement of the God of War TV adaptation, a project born from Sony's initiative to expand its critically acclaimed video game franchises into film and television. This strategy, spearheaded by PlayStation Productions (established in 2019), has already yielded successful adaptations like The Last of Us (with a second season slated for 2025), Uncharted, and Gran Turismo. Further projects in development include adaptations of Gravity Rush, Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, and the upcoming Until Dawn film (April 25, 2025).

Despite the delays caused by the creative restructuring, the God of War TV series remains a priority for Sony and Amazon, promising an exciting adaptation of the beloved game franchise.
