Camper Waits Outside San Francisco Nintendo Store for Switch 2 Before It Opens
The excitement for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is palpable, and nowhere is this more evident than at the soon-to-open Nintendo Store in San Francisco. Even though the store won't officially open its doors until May 15, one dedicated fan, YouTuber Super Cafe, has already taken up camp outside. Documenting his journey in a video released on April 8, Super Cafe flew over 800 miles to stake his claim as the first in line on the West Coast for both the store opening and the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 launch.
In his video, Super Cafe shares his recent life changes, mentioning, "I've only lived in my apartment for two months. I like, just moved out. Terrible financial decision on my end. Whatever, who cares." Despite the questionable financial move, his determination to be the first to get his hands on the Nintendo Switch 2 is unwavering.
Super Cafe isn't alone in this endeavor; a similar scene is unfolding at the New York Nintendo Store, where another content creator is camping out for the same reason. While Super Cafe mentioned he's primarily camping solo, he did invite others interested in joining him for the San Francisco opening to reach out. As for the practicalities of his extended stay, such as accommodations, food, and showers, he plans to address these in a future Q&A video.
The tradition of camping out for major Nintendo releases, particularly consoles, is a long-standing one. Now, with dedicated campers at both coastal Nintendo stores, it remains to be seen if this will spark a broader trend of fans lining up across the country. One thing is clear: these content creators are committed to their cause.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, 2025. For those not keen on camping out, our guides on Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders offer a less physically demanding way to secure the console, though ongoing tariffs are complicating matters for buyers in the United States.
