BG3 Stats Reveal Player Choices: Romance, Cheese, and More

Larian Studios celebrated Baldur's Gate 3's anniversary by unveiling a fascinating collection of player statistics, offering a glimpse into the community's diverse gameplay experiences. These stats, shared on X (formerly Twitter), reveal everything from romantic entanglements to unusual in-game activities.

Romantic Pursuits in the Forgotten Realms

The data showcases romance as a central element of many players' journeys. A staggering 75 million companion kisses were recorded, with Shadowheart receiving the most (27 million), followed by Astarion (15 million) and Minthara (169,937). Act 1's celebratory night saw 32.5% of players with Shadowheart, 13.5% with Karlach, and 15.6% choosing solitude. Act 3 romance favored Shadowheart (48.8%), followed by Karlach (17.6%) and Lae'zel (12.9%).

A significant 658,000 players engaged in romantic encounters with Halsin, with a preference for his human form (70%) over his bear form (30%). Furthermore, 1.1 million players pursued intimacy with the Emperor, with 63% opting for the Dream Guardian form and 37% embracing the mind flayer tentacle experience.

Whimsical Adventures and Unexpected Encounters

Beyond the romantic, players indulged in lighter moments. 1.9 million players transformed into cheese wheels, showcasing the game's humorous elements. Friendly dinosaurs welcomed 3.5 million visitors, while 2 million players freed Us from the Colony. Remarkably, despite the Dark Urge's reputation, 3,777 players found a way to spare Alfira, inadvertently contributing to the game's lute rock soundtrack.

Animal companions also received significant attention. Scratch, the loyal dog, was petted over 120 million times, while the Owlbear Cub garnered over 41 million pets. A curious 141,600 players attempted to pet His Majesty, the cat—the same number who conquered Honour Mode.

Character Creation and Class/Race Preferences

A remarkable 93% of players opted to create custom characters, highlighting the appeal of personalized heroes. Among pre-made characters, Astarion (1.21 million players) was the most popular, followed by Gale (1.20 million) and Shadowheart (0.86 million). Interestingly, 15% of custom characters were based on the Dark Urge.

Paladin was the most chosen class (nearly 10 million players), followed closely by Sorcerer and Fighter (both over 7.5 million). Other classes, such as Barbarian, Rogue, Warlock, Monk, and Druid, also had a strong following, though fewer than 7.5 million. Rangers and Clerics had the lowest numbers.

BG3 Stats Show Diverse Player Choices

Elves were the most popular race (over 12.5 million), followed by Half-Elves and Humans (both 12.5 million). Tieflings (over 10 million), Drow, and Dragonborn (both over 7.5 million) also had significant representation. Half-Orcs, Githyanki, and Dwarves each exceeded 2.5 million, while Gnomes and Halflings had fewer than 2.5 million each. Specific class-race combinations revealed interesting trends, such as Dwarves' preference for Paladin and Dragonborn's affinity for Sorcerer.

Epic Feats and Narrative Choices

141,660 players conquered Honour Mode, demonstrating exceptional skill. Conversely, 1,223,305 playthroughs ended in defeat, with 76% of players deleting their saves and 24% continuing in custom mode.

Significant narrative choices included betraying the Emperor (1.8 million players), convincing Orpheus to remain a mind flayer (329,000 players), and killing the Netherbrain (3.3 million players, with 200,000 resulting in Gale's sacrifice). A rare outcome saw 34 players experience Avatar Lae'zel's self-sacrifice after rejection by Vlaakith.

In conclusion, Baldur's Gate 3's anniversary statistics paint a rich tapestry of player experiences, showcasing a diverse and engaged community. From romantic encounters to humorous mishaps, the journey through the Forgotten Realms has been uniquely shaped by player choices.
