Lego's $1,000 Star Wars Death Star Emerges in Leak
Leaked images seem to confirm a massive new LEGO Death Star set, rumored to contain 9,023 pieces, cost $1,000, and release this October.
Instead of presenting the full spherical battle station, this version offers a cross-section view to highlight the Empire's central command hub, incorporating numerous detailed rooms and hidden references.
Reception to the half-sphere design—unlike earlier Death Star sets—has been divided. While some fans appreciate the enhanced interior detail for the price, others feel LEGO is cutting corners by only offering half the structure.

So what exactly does the $1,000 set include? The expansive model features over a dozen iconic locations from the Star Wars universe, such as the throne room, laser control center, garbage compactor, shuttle hangar, and the area where Luke heroically swings across a chasm with Princess Leia.
The docking bay comes with a complete Lambda-class shuttle, while collectors will likely be excited about the rumored inclusion of 32 minifigures.
Reported characters span multiple versions of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia, plus Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2, Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, Rogue One’s Director Orson Krennic and Galen Erso, Grand Moff Tarkin, Admiral Motti (famously Force-choked in A New Hope), General Tagge, Colonel Wullf Yularen (a treat for Clone Wars fans), the insectoid protocol droid 5D6-RA-7, a Death Star Gunner, Imperial Royal Guards, crew members, Stormtroopers (including a Hot Tub variant), and Imperial Dignitaries—cloaked advisors featuring a new LEGO hat element.
Whether all these details justify the $1,000 price tag is up to you. (Perhaps buying two sets to form a complete sphere is the answer?)
On its own, the new Death Star will rank as the fourth-largest LEGO set ever by piece count, trailing the 11,000-piece LEGO Art World Map, the LEGO Icons Eiffel Tower, and the LEGO Icons Titanic.
Three other LEGO Star Wars sets also make the top 10: the UCS Millennium Falcon, AT-AT, and Razor Crest. Meanwhile, the LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle, with just 6,020 pieces, falls short of the ranking.
LEGO has yet to officially announce the new Death Star set, but if the leaks are any indication, an announcement may be imminent.
