Top Assassin's Creed Games Ranked
The newest addition to Ubisoft's stealth-action open-world franchise, Assassin's Creed Shadows, has finally arrived. But how does it stack up against its predecessors? We're putting that decision in your hands. While over 30 titles have carried the Assassin's Creed name, we're focusing solely on the mainline entries—excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR releases, and spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation.
The series began in 2007 with Desmond Miles reliving ancestral memories as Altaïr, and now 18 years later transports players to 16th-century Japan through dual protagonists Naoe and Yasuke. As the 14th core installment, this latest adventure prompted me to rank the series using IGN's Tier List system based on my personal gameplay experiences.

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remains my gold standard—its perfect blend of naval combat, tropical exploration, and memorable characters creates the definitive series experience. It shares S-tier status with Assassin's Creed II, which revolutionized the franchise's potential. Some may question my A-tier placement of Valhalla, but its Viking combat and Orlog minigame won me over, alongside Unity's breathtaking rendition of revolutionary Paris that still impresses today.
Disagree with my rankings? Think Valhalla overstays its welcome or AC II gets undue praise? Craft your own tier list below and see how your S-through-D rankings compare with the IGN community.
