May 2025 PS Plus Game Linked to Hollywood Movie Launch

Author : Dylan May 20,2025

Rumors are swirling that one of the PlayStation Plus games for May 2025 might be the teen slasher horror game, Until Dawn. Although Sony has yet to confirm this, leaked key art suggests it could be the Until Dawn Remastered edition rather than the original 2014 release. We'll keep you updated as soon as we have official confirmation.

PlayStation Plus is an essential online gaming service for PlayStation users, offering a suite of benefits including free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer access, and exclusive member discounts. For Extra and Premium members, there's also access to a vast catalog of current and classic games. However, the monthly free games are accessible to all subscribers, regardless of their tier.

Speculation within the PlayStation subreddit community, as noted by PushSquare, suggests this move could be a promotional strategy tied to the recent release of the Until Dawn movie. The movie, which premiered over the weekend, received a lukewarm response, earning a 5/10 from us at IGN. In our Until Dawn movie review, we noted: "Until Dawn is more disappointing than deadly, leaving all the promise of the horror game behind for a jumble of horror-movie re-creations."

The Until Dawn Remastered of 2024 also scored a 5/10 from IGN, with our review stating it as an "overpriced and under-featured remake that seems less like a must-have bit of moonlit murder and something closer to daylight robbery." In contrast, the original 2015 release by Supermassive Games was more favorably received, earning a 7.5/10 from us.

In other PlayStation Plus news, 22 games are slated to be removed from the service next month. This list includes popular titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of first-party games Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. As a result, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will no longer be available on modern consoles.
