Application Description

Digital Transformation of Devarattam

This application was developed as part of my initiative "Digital Revolution of Devarattam," honoring Kalaimamani recipients.

Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kumararaman, a retired teacher, Kalaimani Mr. M. Kannan Kumar, and Kalaimani Mr. K. Nellai Manikandan from Zamin Kodangipatti were honored with the KALAIMAMANI, KALAIMANI, and USTAD BISMILLAH KHAN YUVA PURASKAR awards respectively for their contributions to Devarattam. I dedicate this app to these respected legends, my Guru Mr. E. Rajakamulu, and the cherished figures of Devarattam. My goal in creating the Devarattam app is to promote awareness of Devarattam and its award recipients. The app provides detailed descriptions of Devarattam and its honored artists. Devarattam is a traditional folk dance from Tamil Nadu. Historically and in modern times, it has been performed by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community. The dance comprises 32 to 72 distinct steps, with 32 being the foundational movements, while the remaining are variations derived from these basics.

Performers of Devarattam hold a kerchief in each hand, wear Salangai (ankle bells) on each leg, and dance to the rhythms of the traditional musical instrument known as the Deva Thunthumi.
