Application Description

Collision Investigators: Access EDR "Black Box" Data with CrashScan

Investigating vehicle collisions just got easier. The CrashScan app, used with an OBDLink MX+ Bluetooth adapter, allows you to scan vehicle computer modules, including the Event Data Recorder (EDR), commonly known as the "black box," where supported. This tool helps investigators identify, extract, and interpret stored accident data, aiding in the verification of insurance claims and liability assessments.

Vehicle Compatibility:

CrashScan supports over 3000 vehicle year/make/model combinations globally. Check compatibility here: https://collisionsciences.ca/reports/check_support/

Comprehensive Accident Reports:

Successful CrashScan reports detail impact severity, orientation (front, rear, or side), and provide crucial context:

  • Accident severity classification (minor, moderate, or severe)
  • EDR trigger threshold information
  • 5 seconds of pre-crash data: speed, brake/accelerator pedal use, and steering input
  • Occupant count and seatbelt usage
  • Estimated repair cost
  • Likelihood of structural damage
  • Injury risk assessment (whiplash, injury duration)
  • G-force context compared to daily activities

(Injury risk algorithms utilize stored acceleration data, research articles, and databases like the National Automotive Sampling System (NASS))
