Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii: A Blend of Serious Drama and Hilarious Mayhem

RGG Studio promises a unique mix of intense drama and comedic chaos in the upcoming Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. This latest installment will push the boundaries of reality while delivering a compelling "manly drama," according to the developers.

A Serious Side to Majima's Mayhem

While the Like a Dragon series is renowned for its humor, particularly Majima's comedic antics, director Masayoshi Yokoyama reveals a "more serious" side to Majima in this iteration, especially at the story's outset.

Producer Ryosuke Horii emphasizes the core "manly drama," highlighting Majima's passionate pursuit of his goals and the bonds he forges throughout his wild adventure. He clarifies, "The goofing off isn't the main point – there's a manly drama at the heart of it. Of course, there are some crazy diversions, but overall, it's a straightforward story about a passionate man."

Horii further explains the unique qualities Majima brings, distinct from series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu: "If we didn't leverage that properly, there'd be no point in having Majima as the main character. That's why we blurred the lines of reality a bit more than with Kiryu, aiming for richly varied action... I wanted to balance the pirate elements, Majima's personality, and the core Ryu ga Gotoku feel, which was challenging."

The developers aimed for a perfect balance of realism and over-the-top action, ensuring the game remains engaging and exciting, opting for a "wilder" approach while maintaining a serious and compelling narrative.
