Xbox Games Now to Be Available for Purchase via Android Xbox App
Get ready for an exciting update! An Xbox Android app, boasting new features, is on the horizon, potentially launching as early as next month.
The Details:
An Xbox mobile app is slated for a November release, allowing Android users to purchase and play games directly within the app. This announcement, shared by Xbox president Sarah Bond on X (formerly Twitter), is a direct result of the recent court ruling in Google's antitrust battle with Epic Games. This ruling mandates Google offer expanded options and flexibility within the Google Play Store, opening the door for third-party app stores like the upcoming Xbox app. The court order requires Google to provide access to its full app catalog to rival app stores for three years, starting November 1st, 2024.
What Makes This New Xbox App Special?
While an existing Xbox app allows downloading games to Xbox consoles and cloud streaming for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, the November update introduces in-app game purchases. The full extent of the app's capabilities will be revealed in November. For a more in-depth analysis, check out the CNBC article mentioned in the original piece.
