Xbox Game Pass: A Must-Have for RPG Enthusiasts

Author : Caleb May 12,2025

As a long-time PC gamer who's been lured in by countless Steam sales, I never thought Xbox Game Pass would be something I'd consider. But recent additions to the service have changed my mind entirely. Yesterday, Bethesda and Virtuos surprised everyone by shadow-dropping the much-anticipated *The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered* straight onto Game Pass. Though it was a poorly kept secret, the reveal was still electrifying. And if that wasn't enough, tomorrow brings *Clair Obscur: Expedition 33*, the debut game from Sandfall Interactive, which promises a stylish nod to the JRPG genre. As a dedicated RPG fan, Microsoft, you've finally won me over.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Both Hit Game Pass This Week

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate – 1 Month Membership – Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows, Cloud Gaming Devices [Digital Code]

$19.99 at Amazon

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was released on April 22, and I, like many others, spent the day downloading it and the night immersed in its revamped world. The remaster boasts new character models, enhanced combat interactions, and stunning remastered visual effects. Virtuos has managed to keep the charm of the original's quirky dialogue intact, even with the addition of over five new voice actors. The base edition is priced at $49.99, including the original DLCs, with a deluxe edition available for $10 more.

On the other hand, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 marks the debut of French studio Sandfall Interactive. Set to launch at midnight PST, it boasts an impressive 92 rating on Metacritic. IGN's glowing 9/10 review lauded its story design, calling it "a true modern throwback." The game's UI evokes the charm of the Persona series, and its turn-based combat system is among the most innovative I've seen. The base edition is also priced at $49.99.

While Expedition 33 was poised to headline April's Game Pass lineup, the surprise release of Oblivion Remastered has cast a shadow over the indie game's debut. However, I see it as an opportunity to enjoy two exceptional games for a fraction of the cost. Instead of shelling out $100 for both games, I've subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate for just $20. Now, the only challenge is finding time to step away from the screen.

Plenty more of 2025's biggest titles have recently joined Game Pass, including Blue Prince, South of Midnight, and Avowed, alongside classics like GTA V and the full range of Call of Duty games. It truly feels like there's something for everyone.

Game Pass Is a Ridiculously Good Deal Right Now

Game Pass Ultimate, starting at $19.99/month, grants access to the entire Game Pass library across console, PC, and cloud gaming. The PC-only Game Pass is more affordable at $9.99/month, while the Standard and Core tiers, at $14.99/month and $9.99/month respectively, do not include day one releases. The last price increase occurred in July 2024, and with these high-profile game launches, another hike might be on the horizon.

Although there are no current Game Pass deals, opting for a three-month subscription could protect you from potential future price increases.
