WB Reportedly Cancels Unannounced Hogwarts Legacy Paid DLC
According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has decided to cancel an unannounced paid DLC for the popular Harry Potter adventure game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned story expansion was set to launch this year, alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel came after concerns arose that "the amount of content was not substantial enough to justify the price being considered," as per Bloomberg's sources. Warner Bros. declined to comment on the report.
This cancellation comes amidst a broader restructuring of Warner Bros.' gaming division, driven by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company canceled its planned Wonder Woman game and shut down the studio behind it, Monolith Productions, along with WB San Diego and the MultiVersus studio, Player First Games. Additionally, last September, Warner Bros. laid off employees at Rocksteady, further indicating the company's efforts to streamline operations.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the broader Harry Potter franchise within its portfolio. The company has stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities" as it shifts focus towards fewer but larger franchises. The original game has already achieved significant success, selling over 30 million copies worldwide.
